Feeding due to poor weather

I am hoping that someone can help me with the following. My colony came through the winter ok. It had plenty of stores. All seems normal. We had the nice warm weather in March. There was plenty of activity, lots of pollen going in. Plenty of stores. Now it seems that the stores are nearly all gone. There is still plenty of activity. Is this normal when the colony is expanding that the stores run down or could it be due to the poor weather ?. Should I feed or leave things as they are. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi mvkeenan, welcome to the

Hi mvkeenan, welcome to the site!

Its normal that they use stores to feed eggs/larvae but usually they are bringing more in to replace whats been used. I have an over wintered nuc and i gave them a feed of 1:1 syrup (3 litres worth) to help them along as i didnt think they had enough and when i checked 3 days later, it was nearly half gone!

If there isnt a super on your colony, i would give them a feed of syrup and check in a few days to see if they are taking it, i suspect they will! :)

Hi Kevin

Hi Kevin

I put on a slab of fondant as I had no syrup handy.  They have taken most of it at this stage and seem to be the better for it. Thankfully the weather seems to have improved. Thanks for your help.
